Oooh leeeeii oh lei oh lei! o wait wrong culture. For this project we made Lei's. we learned of their origin and how they came to be a great sign of respect in Hawaiian culture. we made our lei's out of water colored paper and bright construction paper, and for the vines we used the combination of string and straws along with a bobby pin to help thread it all together.

An extension activity would to look into Hawaiian culture and look specifically at the dress and how it has changed compared to the dress of today.

We got our selves some good old snake pots or coil pots based on Egyptian culture. We used non- baking clay to produce these pots. We first kneaded the clay so all of the air bubbles would come out., the reason for this is so it would be strong when the clay would dry. Then with the kneaded clay we made lumps of clay into strings of clays that we coiled around the base of the pot. using this method was very convenient because you didn't have to worry about pinching holes and ruining your pot. I wrote HOT MESS! on mine because it was very toasty in the art room when I was painting it and it was very messy

An
An extension activity would be to have the students research other cultures that use coil pots in there day to day life. also have them discover other pottery used in different cultures as well, and give them a shot.

Today in class was all about Dr. Suess and making villages based on the book that was read in class Oh the Places You Will Go. While reading the book the educators told use to look at the design of the villages on the pages. Based on the villages found we seen in the book we designed our own 3D village using construction paper. I named mine villanova villageville just for fun.

An extension activity that would work for this project is a developing a story to give their village a history.

Eric Carle Inspired Collages. With this project we looked at the technique Eric Carle uses to devise his famous children illustration books, such as Hungry Little Caterpillar and Brown Bear Brown Bear. we started by painting sheets of white paper with a variety of color and making collage paper. then we cut the paper out in a specific way to develop a scene and devise a picture. i devised a blue book, on a rug, by a tree on a hill side, during the late evening of the day.
This could be an awesome year round filler activity. children love to pull out paper and just paint and have there imagination go wild and this fills that perfectly. any down time the teacher can pull out some paint quick shoot it on some paper plates and tell them to paint color collages. with those color collages the students can practice this art making skill with any subject matter. EG math make numbers out of the paper

Wow! This day was a cool lesson. we learned about Japanese marble paintings. what they would do is get a tub of water  a put paint in the water the way they wanted, then they would take a brush or something to create a flowing piece of art by dragging the paint through the water. then placed a piece of paper on top of it to capture the beauty in the tub. Awesome stuff. we did something very similar, the only difference is we used shaving cream and got a very similar affect. we used the paint as marble color for our old important places found around the world.
This activity would work great learning about other cultures and their influences. it would be a prime activity to show the difference between cultures and how ever bodies different. take a trip around the world  on a map finding specific painting styles and draw them and learn about that certain culture.
OMG MACRAME MADDNESS! Really exciting lesson on macrame this week, first time ever to learn how to create this wonderful jewelry. we learned the history of macrame and how ship men way back in the day would use to pass the time. they taught us the two different ways to braid, either strait or swirled along with including beads within the braiding.
this would be great activity in the middle a large unit involving old sailors. The unit would consist of learning about life on the seas back then, how long ship travel took compared to how long it takes now, how ships were developed back then. the students would learn about hardships of life at sea and why this helped pass the time so well.
Hot & Cold Animal Puzzle Pieces.  In this lesson the student were practicing some elements of art such as patterns, lines, geometrical shapes,  and organic shapes along with becoming familar with warm and cool colors. The students were given a puzzle piece that was label warm or cool and given an element that they had to draw as the background to the puzzle piece. As the forground the student drew an animal of there liking and colored it with one of the selected colors of the  color sceme that they got and was able to use the rest of the colors in the color scheme in the back ground. once they were all finished the puzzle was put together and a warm and cool collage of pictures came together.
A teacher could use this puzzle idea to develope character in students. draw a large outline of a person and cut the pieces into as many pieces need for the class, then have the student draw and write traits that are admired in today's society, (honesty, trust, polite, respectfull, etc...). then explain that these are characteristic that make up good students. This will give the student a visual when they are in times of uncertainty, and it give the the teacher a tool to refer to when students are misbehaving.
HAHA! Hopping complimentary color plaid bunnies for Easter! This we learned about using complimentary colors such as green to read, purple to yello, and blue to orange along with using different width horizontal and vertical line to develop the plaid pattern. It was right around Easter time., so it was a perfect idea to introduce content while using a holiday to cover it all up.
I can think of a few things that could be be done after creating this Easter bunny. A teacher can use this as an introduction to a mammal unit in science, horizontal and vertical lines along with 90 degree angles in math, history of Easter, fairtale of the Easter bunny. This project opens up a variety of extension activities.
Alrighty! here is some blind contour drawing. The idea is take a sheet of white contructions paper (or paper that wount just crimple up after gettting a little wet) then have the student take a crack at drawing an image on to the contruction paper without looking with a white crayon or pastel. once finishing the blind drawings the student wet the paper with water then fill in the paper with color, bringing the images out in white. really, really neat idea.
An activity that would be sweet, would be to practice emotions through coloring. take the sheet of paper and divide it into 4 sections with black outlines. then in each box have the students write an emoiton in a certain box then have them draw what they think is angry lines  or happy lines. then have them do this for the other three boxes then color it so they get to see what they think emotion looks like in the form of a line.
Oh boy, bet you can't see the gorrilla! In this Art project we looked at the idea of making an image disappear and only being able to se the image through a special pair of specticals. The idea is the student draw a picture of an animal, person, place or something that is related to your content. Have them draw this in a light blue color. Then create layers of patters over the image using warm colors to distract the eye from the blue image. Have them use patterns that are similar to the image contours (if the image is a bunch of hearts, have the patterns be triangles and circles.). The looking through the special specticals that are red lensed the light blue jumps out of the picture.
An activity that would be really awesome would be a scavenger hunt using these pictures as clues. can be realated to social studies and navigation. Have the clues lead to a certain point where they find a prize or another clue. In each clue have something that is realted to the content that the teacher is teaching during the specific unit. can be used as a year round thing if desired
